SUMMARY:Sanya Colson-Inam - Solo Show "Imagine"
DESCRIPTION:Sandrine (a.k.a. Sanya) is Artist of the Month at the Thomas Crane Public Library during September. \nHer show Imagine is a selection of her paintings and mixed media work. In this exhibit\, Sanya invites her viewers to see the invisible out of her work; to make up their own stories and let their mind imagine the end of stories her mixed media or paintings are starting for them. In this series Sanya expresses her personal ideas about emotional expression\, resulting in richly textured abstract canvases in various color schemes that incorporate mixed-media elements. The compositions are abstract and emotional\, referencing natural forms and movement\, filled with bright paint swirls of color\, playful paper cut-outs\, and three-dimensional objects. \nOpening reception: Coletti Reading Room on Saturday\, September 13 from 2-4 p.m. \nSanya is a BAA member\, a painter\, and mixed-media artist. See her TV interview for the Thomas Crane Public Library show in Quincy. \n \n

SUMMARY:Animal Art Exhibit at Belmont Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Wonderfully diverse\, thought-provoking\, fun exhibit\nAnimals — from beasts of prey to household pets — have been a staple of artistic expression since cave painting at the very dawn of humanity. Whether as totems\, allegory\, decoration\, or simply for their “fearsome symmetry\,” animals have been a presence in the works of history’s greatest masters from DaVinci’s horse studies\, through Rousseau’s primitive wildlife\, to Picasso’s bull fetish. Yet\, the role of animals in art is often overlooked. We have terms for ‘portraits\,’ ‘landscapes.’ and ’‘still lives’\, but none for art with animal subjects. ‘Animal Art’ gets no respect. \nBelmont Gallery of Art opens its tenth anniversary season with a long overdue appreciation of Animals in Art\, featuring animal artworks in a variety of media — painting\, sculpture\, photography collage\, fabric art — selected by jurors and veterinarians\, Dr. Suzanne Kay and Dr. Dawn Binder\, from Belmont’s Cushing Square Veterinary Clinic. \nThe menagerie is a ‘must-see” for art lovers and animal lovers of all ages. And visitors can help homeless and abused pets at the same time. Ten percent of all sales of artwork will be donated to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell to support its mission to find loving families for abandoned and mistreated pets. \nOpening Reception: September 19\, 5 – 8 pm\nDuration of Show: September 14 – October 17. • Hours:  Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.\, Sunday 1 – 4 p.m.\n \nSeveral BAA members are presenting artwork in this exhibit.

SUMMARY:CALL FOR ARTISTS - Belmont Mural
DESCRIPTION:Please join us and paint our community mural!\nWork began last year on the mural that will be installed on the building of our local movie theater (Studio Cinema on Trapelo Rd.). The mural is a historic tribute to some of the most iconic movies we’ve ever known: Gone With the Wind\, Wizard of Oz\, King Kong\, etc. A grant was secured to purchase the panels and paint supplies. It has been a whole lot of fun painting it\, and it’s nearly complete\, but we need artists to help get us to the finish line\, specifically to paint the details of faces\, hands\, clothing\, etc.\n \nThe mural panels are now located in the basement of St Joe’s Church. Our painting schedule is each Wednesday\, beginning on Sept. 17\, 1:30-3:30 p.m. \nBAA member\, Anne Katzeff\, has been painting the mural with other community members. Email Stacey to let her know that you’ll be joining us!
