AGENDA

BAA’s 10th anniversary show at the Belmont Gallery of Art
BAA 10 year anniversary

We are super happy to announce that the BAA 10th Anniversary Celebratory Show at the BGA has been staged and will be open to the public as of this Saturday, February 10th, featuring 23 BAA artists. Yippee. We did it! Many thanks to all who have helped to make this happen – participating artists, volunteers, our poster maker, Dari, and most especially, Lauren Palmer Merrill, who is truly a force of nature.

So, along with this great news, of course, we have to plan an opening reception, which will be after the show opens Feb. 10, and possibly a closing reception in March (?). But we can not do it without your help. We need a reception planning committee. This is really important if we want the show to be truly celebratory and successful. Please let us know if you can help with this important piece of our show.

Program, 7:30pm

Featured Guest, Molly Zimmer

Molly Zimmer

For our February meeting, we welcome talented artist, Molly Zimmer, as our featured guest, sharing her journey as an artist, her techniques, and a virtual trunk show.

Molly Zimmer is a multimedia artist. Her fabric sculptures combine painting, textile, and collage with recycled materials. She holds an MFA in Painting from the University of New Mexico, and a BFA in Painting and Curatorial Studies from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been exhibited nationally. She has taught sewing, natural dyeing, drawing, and painting courses through community-engaged workshops at museums, non-profit art centers, K-12 schools and universities.  She lives in Arlington, MA with her husband and cat.

Artist Statement

I create textile assemblages that respond to the human need to feel more connected to nature, a sensation known as “biophilia.” Using fabric as a material for collage, I create textured portals into a playful, whimsical, and bright garden realm. These soft fabric sculptures aim to immerse the viewer with the sensual comforts and respite of gardens, bringing flora into the home. I hope that my work can display a vibrant love of nature, while creating a sanctuary for myself and others to enjoy.”

Presentation

Join Molly Zimmer for a virtual artist talk in her home studio. She will discuss her inspiration from gardens (in particular the activity of pollinators), unique textile processes, show you her materials and industrial sewing machine, highlight a few works from her recent series “Where the Flowers Sing”, plus share tips for running an artist business. Attendees will receive a complimentary PDF to sew Molly’s 3D Fabric Hummingbird.
