Kumihimo, a Japanese form of braiding, is translated as “gathering of threads.” The earliest form of kumihimo dates back to 794 BC, when braids were used to secure clothing in religious ceremonies, and later on Samurai armor. Today Kumihimo is used to make beautiful jewelry. Nationally recognized instructor, Yin Guang, and Naomi Ellenberg-Dukas will unfold the mystery of Kumihimo, instructing workshop participants in making a beautiful beaded Kumihimo bracelet.
Thanks to a grant from the Belmont Cultural Council, the normally $100 workshop is free, other than a discounted $20 materials fee. Bracelet kits include a reusable Kumihimo disk, satin cord, seed beads (with some color choices), and an attractive catch. Previous Kumihimo experience is helpful but not required! You will leave the workshop with the skills and basic materials to continue this satisfying art. Additional supplies will be available for purchase.
