BIO
Mathilde’s nature note cards are found in shops and galleries nationwide. Vicki Lee’s Cafe and unCOMMONfinds carry her cards locally in Belmont, not far from where she lives.
Mathilde Duffy, a botanical illustrator and nature photographer, combines her love of nature with a wry sense of humor to create unusual cards that more often get framed than mailed. Her artwork is represented in corporate and private collections.
Detailed artwork in her father’s medical magazines were influential during childhood. While illustrating high school biology class notebooks, Mathilde knew she wanted to work with nature’s intricate details. After college she graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida (three-year fine arts curriculum). She later studied botanical art at Rhode Island School of Design and scientific illustration at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My favorite drawings combine seashells, succulents, orchids, and wildflowers, along with other natural beauties. Multiple layers are carefully applied with many different types of colored pencils. The more detailed a subject is, the more I love drawing it and being drawn into it.
