COMMISSION: The BGA will take a 25% commission of any sales including reproductions. VETO: The BGA’s retention of veto power is about graphic nudity, explicit political or religious statements and other potentially controversial works . This is a matter of courtesy, not censorship. While it is BGA’s ambition to present thought-provoking and challenging artwork, the BGA is a Town of Belmont agency, operating in a municipal building. Since the Gallery is, in effect, borrowing space from the town, it is simply good manners not to use it, without officials’ knowledge or consent, in a way that might embarrass the town or drag its officials into controversy. BGA ROLE: We need to check-in with the BGA Committee about what aspects of mounting and promoting the show, if any, they are intending or willing to take on. DESIGN – A small committee will be responsible for the curation of the show. (Choosing the pieces and arranging them in the Gallery) (Christine, Erika, Richard,SusanK) SALES of art/crafts and reproductions/cards Gallery Sitting Arch Macinnes will be in charge of advertising graphics. He will create a postcard for the show. (Flyers, Posters) Naomi Ellenberg Dukas knows a company that does distribution of publicity. Exhibit poster/cards should be done after the pieces are chosen. Each artist should submit digital images of 5 works, with dimensions and title. You will get a “call for show” with submission information. Notes on Michael Harding DemoWonderful demonstration of luscious oil paints. Michael explained why he started making paints. When he was an art student in England he looked at a Rembrandt painting in the museum and asked his teachers why he couldn’t get that sort of effect. The answer: “they all made their own paints back then”. He thought “And why shouldn’t I?”. He got the Ralph Mayer artist “recipe” book and started mixing. The rest is history. His paints are purely pigment, oil with a little wax to bind it – no additives like commercial paints. The colors are pure, the texture is luscious. Up until 3 years ago, he was personally mixing paints and filling tubes. He and his wife Karyn divide their time between the UK, Waltham and travelling around the world showing his paints. They offered us a special price for the evening, so many of us took home some new toys! They would be happy to keep in touch with our group, do another demo sometime and offer discounts if we would like to make an order. |
