New Works Exhibit and Special Events!

Special Events: BAA Art-Making Workshops (Free)! Refresh your skills or learn some new techniques… The Belmont Art Association (BAA) in partnership with the Belmont Gallery of Art (BGA) present a series of four special summer art-making events on Thursday evenings. All workshops take place 7-9pm at the Belmont Gallery of Art. Thurs., June 29: DRAWING PORTRAITS Rick Corbett. Corbett, an award winning pencil artist/portraitist will demonstrate his personal process of creating a portrait based on light as well as structure to capture the personality of his subject. An example of Corbett’s work is below: Thurs., July 13: KUMIHIMO NECKLACE WORKSHOP Naomi Ellenberg-Dukas, of DukasDesigns, will demonstrate Japanese beaded braiding to create a single strand kumihimo bracelet. This technique has unlimited designs and varying degrees of complexity, but this will start with the basics. Materials will be supplied to 10 attendees (by lottery to those present). Naomi is President of Beadesigner International/New England Bead Society. Thurs., July 20: SIMPLIFIED ANATOMY Drawing the Human Figure from Imagination and Life – led by Damon Lehrer. Lehrer has taught at RISD, Boston University, Art Institute of Boston, Mass College of Art, and Montserrat College of Art. Founder of Boston Figurative Art Center, Somerville. Thurs July 27: LIVE MODEL SESSION Come try your hand at drawing a clothed live model. BAA artists will be on hand to offer tips and advice to workshop attendees. Art supplies will be provided for workshop attendees. Some events will feature brief talks by participating BAA artists about their individual art-making techniques and influences. Rick Corbett Wins 2 Awards!

Congrats to BAA member, Rick Corbett, whose awesome portrait won 1st place at Reading Art Association spring exhibit! Rick’s drawing “Kit” won the Popular/People’s Choice Award at the same exhibit! I am so honored, flattered, and humbled. Two of my drawings won awards. It’s not the winning that matters to me, what means most to me is making an impact with my art, being able to share my passion with others and making an emotional connection through my art. Application fee $10 payable to Belmont Gallery of Art when dropping off accepted work


2017 members of the Belmont Art Association (dues paid by April 20) may submit new work created over the past year. Any media that can be hung on a wall will be considered, including painting, photography, printmaking, collage, drawing, flat fiber art, mixed media, digital media.   In addition, jewelry and 3D art may be accepted if it can be displayed on a shelf or if the artist provides display pedestal.  Include details on application.

April 20 – Gallery SixThirteen reception opening Show 2 April 21 (Friday) – May 5 (Friday) Pop up Studio (2 weeks) May 19 (Friday) – May 26 (Friday) Pop up Studio (1 weeks) June 23 (Friday) – June 30 (Friday) Pop up Studio (1 week) EVENTS: The BAA will hold a maximum of 3 events per “Pop Up Week” – approved by Karla.  Tentatively they will be: Fridays (6-9pm)”PROJECT NIGHT” BAA artists bring their work & equipment to work in the company of others. 6 artists can work, others can come to socialize. Wednesdays (3-5 or 7-9) “DEMONSTRATION” – afternoon for youth, evening for adults artists demonstrate techniques with the opportunity for audience to briefly try out techniques.  One technique, 1-3 teachers Sundays (2-4) “SALON/DEMONSTRATION” – BAA artists “Show and Tell” discuss motivations, techniques, successes and failures. Typically 4-6 artists. We will need to limit attendance because of the seating restrictions. Please contact Rick Corbett () to sign up for Demonstrations and Project Night DISPLAY: Use of 2 walls in the main gallery (in back, perpendicular to front window) and the 4 walls in the studio space for up to 2 artists at a time. EXPENSES: Deposit of $250 for any possible damage to gallery from art making. Rent of $250 to the gallery for each “pop up” week.
