Posted By on Jan 23, 2017

POP UP STUDIO March – June 2017 – third week of month (tentatively) The BAA is pleased to announce that we have a space for our pop-up studio. This will be a space for members to make art, socialize and display work for sale. The space is in Belmont Center – a new gallery being opened by Karla Cohen, a BAA member. We will hold the pop-up studio one week a month for March, April, May, June. After this, we will try to come to an arrangement with the gallery for continued use of the space for our artists. We need volunteers for this to work. For the future of the BAA, please commit to help. Lack of participation will endanger this project and the continued existence of this group. (Christine starts a full time job end of January). VOLUNTEER ROLES Only current (paid) BAA members have a right to use the studio space for work (restrictions on materials may apply) and put up their art. Volunteers have priority to use the studio space. Use of the space will be free. The roles are: STUDIO MANAGERS – Rick Corbett and Tony Kantor Coordinate the following volunteers: CURATORS (2 people) – Helen Morse and Mary Lee In charge of admitting and hanging work. Possibility of multiple exhibits. Arrangements for sharing responsibilities can be made between curators. Determine what the rules are for eligibility. Those giving talks or workshops get priority. Artist can do multiple talks – but others must be given a chance first. PR managers – Helen Morse and Dari Paquette Responsible for media blasts with announcements of the studio and our events. Pull together artist blurbs and other info. PR distributor for Internet and Social media – Anne Katzeff and Rick Corbett Responsible for taking PR from PR managers and distributing on social media. EVENT coordinator – Christine Chang Organize artists for the workshops and talks. Send their bios and pr materials to PR manager. Supervise needs for receptions. Get volunteers to help for these. SPONSORSHIP manager –Naomi Ellenberg-Dukas and Christine Chang Get sponsorship of donations and funding from local businesses for food/drink and supplies for events. (We will offer mention, posters, pr, coupons). WORKSHOP/SALON leaders – Linda Salter, Nicole Bernstein, and more to come hopefully! Every BAA member who is present in studio is responsible for being host/salesperson and handling any sales. You are welcome to bring extra work for sale while you are in the studio. Community Mural is Done!

Posted By on Jun 7, 2016

It took nearly two years, but the community mural is done, and now hangs on the outdoor wall of the Belmont Cinema on Trapelo Road! Janet Amdur got the grant and Stacey Hammerlind got the people-power and supplies. BAA member Anne Katzeff was one of several community folks who went to the weekly painting sessions during its first year. They took care of the backgrounds, lettering, figure shapes, and many details. At our last meeting, several BAA members helped put the finishing touches on the mural, painting the faces and clothing. Anne took these pictures today. But you should go there yourself and check it out! Anne Katzeff painting Elvis during the early stages of the mural. Several panels of the mural. John Norton’s portrait work! So many hands involved in this section. Many people contributed to this section, too. Christine Chang did a great job completing Audrey Hepburn. Richard Hill made Elvis come...
