“I approach landscape painting from the idea that three-dimensional space can be created through simple color gradients whose boundaries define sharp contours and silhouettes. This is a style of painting that I have recently developed on a large scale, building from previous work insmall watercolors. Trees have always been a favorite part of a landscape for me, and in my paintings I try to have the silhouettes of trees provide an interplay of positive and negative space. These naturalforms create depth through spatial relation both to each other and to the contours of the landscape.”
